General Program Information for WashJam 2009

Arrival

Units should plan on arriving in the late afternoon or early evening on Thursday, August 20, 2009. Your registration information will be checked and you will be guided to the camping area to select your campsite. There will be drive-in access for unloading all your gear. After you unload your gear you will need to move your vehicle to the main parking lot.

Camping

We will be camping in an area with a range of conditions. Most of the site is level or nearly so. Some is wooded and some is more open. Depending on the location, you may find woody plants in your campsite (scotch broom). We are authorized to cut this material down, so you are advised to bring a shovel.

Daily Activites

The program runs from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Friday and Saturday. Units should complete their cooking and clean up before 10:00am, and return to their campsite at 5:00pm to prepare dinner. The Cub Scout program will run somewhat later each day to accommodate day visitors while the units are preparing their evening meal. There will be additional program opportunities Sunday afternoon.

Onsite Services

WashJam provides water and portable toilet facilities for the camping and program areas. Units are responsible for their own food, ice, and other supplies for the duration of WashJam. There will be a Scout trading post open as part of the midway, and a limited number of food vendors.

Meals and Cooking

Only gas stoves are permitted for cooking, due to fire protection restrictions. Do not bring charcoal grills or dutch ovens requiring charcoal, and do not use open fires. All exceptions (such as program and demonstration areas) have to be pre-cleared with our Ft. Lewis hosts.

Midway

We'll have a great midway at WashJam with a number of exhibitors and vendors of all kinds. There will be a full Scout Shop as well as booths by civic, religious, conservation, and other groups.

Demonstrations

We expect a number of exciting demonstrations at WashJam. The Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard are all planning to bring exhibits, equipment, and activites. We'll have a number of live demonstations and fly-overs during WashJam.

Shows

We've got two great shows planned. Friday night, we'll have a talent and entertainment show - always a crowd favorite. Saturday, we'll kick off the Boy Scouts of America centennial year with an inspiring and patriotic show, with (weather permitting) a terrific fireworks finale.

Religious Services

Sunday morning WashJam will host several different religious services.

Departure

WashJam will conclude with a closing ceremony Sunday at 4:00pm. Units are welcome to stay over Sunday night and depart on Monday.
