What Do I Get For $35 At WashJam?
What do I get for $35?
We've heard this question a lot, and it is a good question. Here are some
answers:
Activities
WashJam will have a lot to see and do. The program and activities are described
in more detail in links on the www.washjam.org
home page, but here are some highlights.
- Cub Scouts - At Cub World, our young "Knights of Cub Scouting"
will enter through the castle and receive their challenge to have fun. Can
they navigate the maze, cross the moat, and scale the wall? Will they be able
to build their own castle? How far will their catapult toss go? Cubs
can expect a day full of activities in a unique experience just for them.
Also see the 'crossover' category below.
- Boy Scouts - With over 40 varied activities, Boy Scouts will be
busy. There will be challenging activities, games, demonstrations, and exhibits
of all kinds of Scout skills and merit badge activities. Try out the rifle
range, the climbing wall, and the obstacle course. How about fly fishing,
or frisbee golf?
- Varsity - You've arrived at the Mountain Man Rendezvous.
Are you ready to tackle the challenge? Can you toss the caber, hit the tomahawk
target, and make it to the end of the John Coulter trail?
- Venturing - What intrigues you most - compound bow archery, pistol
shooting, possibly scuba? Why not try them all?
- Crossover Activities - many of our activities will be available
to multiple programs. For example, Cubs can participate in their own version
of several of the Boy Scout and Varsity events.
Big
We're holding WashJam 2009 on a site with over 2 square miles of available space.
We'll bring in power, water, and sanitary facilities for perhaps 6,000 participants
and staff. We'll have on site security and medical personnel. Are
you from Sequim, Leavenworth, North Bend, or Yelm? For the duration of WashJam,
we will temporarily have a population larger than these cities and of all but about
100 cities in Washington?
Spectacular
From the scale of the event to the two evening stage shows to the fireworks on Saturday
night, WashJam 2009 is going to be spectactular. Thanks to our neighbors at
Ft. Lewis and McChord Air Force Base, you can expect a variety of flyovers and military
demonstrations. There will be activities going on all over our site for 3
days. Meet Scouts from all over the Pacific Northwest, including Canada, and
enjoy Scouting fellowship with thousands of your fellow Scouts.
Unique
WashJam could be the most unique experience of any Scout's time in our Scouting
programs. It's not like Cub day camp or a Camporee - it's bigger,
covers all Scouting programs, and features the unique attractions that only a very
large event can host. You'll see activities at WashJam that won't
be duplicated anywhere. Our attendance will be larger than any event most
Scouts will ever experience. And we'll have two terrific stage shows and
a fireworks display (weather permitting).
Great Value
The only event a Scout is likely to attend of similar scale would be the National
Jamboree. The National Jamboree is an 8 day event only open to Boy Scouts.
In recent years, the cost of the Jamboree has reached $3500 per Scout from our region.
It's a great experience and the price includes transportation and an fabulous
tour, but the price excludes many who would like to go. For 1% of the cost
of attending a national jamboree, Scouts from all programs and from all over Washington,
Oregon, and Canada, and experience 3 days of program and shows similar to the National
Jamboree in our own backyard.
So what do you get for your $35? A HUGE Scouting experience!
